these images are of me and will moving the dismantled piano on to a pick up to take to the field.
We took the piano apart to make it easier to move it from its starting location to the field we intended to film. thanks to another media student who gave us the piano to burn and helped with the transportation we could go ahead with our ambitious and unique idea.
This is the location, the sheep were not a problem due to them just walking away to the other side of the field. this was good because if they were a problem they would inter-fear with filming.
Here we are setting up for the beginning of filming. This meant we where positing the actor the camera and where we would use the flame paste so we had the correct filming at the correct time.
Here I am explaining which bit of the story bored we are going to film and what I want Will to do. I did this frequently to make sure he understood what he needed to do where and when, this minimised film used and loss of light.
Here we dismantle the keys so it doesnt play and put of Will when he is pressing the keys. This was so he can play the song correctly to reduce mistakes.
Putting down the first of the flame paste to test to see how it looks. We only had a limited amount so could only have a few shots. The flame paste was so we could control the flames without causing harm to Will.
It failed due to it being too light therefore the flames were barely visible.
Scratching off the burnt wood for the next layer of flame paste. This was to ensure that the flame paste was to work correctly.
Once the scenes of Will playing the piano was finished we began lighting the piano fully on fire. for the final scenes. this was obviously a one shot opportunity because once the piano was on fire the filming is to start.
Before long the piano was on fire and so we began to film the final scene and frames.
As you can see the burning piano was enough lighting to create a good silhouettes and light the surrounding area the way I wanted. This meant we didn't need any extra lighting.
We tried an extra bit of filming with some flashing torch lights to see what it would look like when finished. We new that we weren't going to get another opportunity like this so filmed as much as possible.
All the filming has now finished we got as many shots we could from different angles and ideas. This was a one chance thing due to us not having access to another piano!
