Storyboard

This is the first few shots that establish the concept of the music video. It begins with no music and a young teenager is seen in bed who is woken up by his phone. He then finds out he is dumped and is upset about this. It then goes into a quick montage of him getting ready, Shower, getting dressed tying his shoes and picking up his keys and iPod leaving out the door.
Then it continues with no music, he locks the door and presses play on his iPod the the song "Up in Flames". This is when the music begins. With an pan going upwards to reveal the depressed teenager walking away, in editing stages I intend to fade in and out with the beat of the drum. It then follows the teenager crossing some train tracks, still fading in and out to the drum. The teenager is then seen sat on a bench with an arching shot to reveal the singer deliver the first few lines. After that the teenager gets on the train to walk past the singer. Then to sit down with the singer singing in the background. He then has departed off the train ad the singer is singing in front of him but the teenager doesn't seem to acknowledge he is there. This is because he is his conscience.
Then the singer and teenager are seen at traffic lights waiting to cross. It moves to the singer following the teenager down the street with over the shoulder shots and tracking shots. When the chorus kicks in the singer still follows and watches the teenager as he ignores him completely. This goes on till the end of the chorus when the singer gives way to him to carry on his life and thoughts. When it fades to black and into the next scene of the singers lips. then of the drummer playing the beat.
Then the scene consists of a arching shot of the piano into a shot of the piano and singer through the drummer using depth of field. Moving on to a close up of the keys playing the song. Then it goes back to the chorus and into a slow motion shot of my idea of water on the drum effect. This will be for both "up in flames" lyrics possibly with different angles. Once that finishes it moves onto the singer singing the next lines through flames. Then an arching shot of the piano on fire with the singer playing it. then the piano will be fully alight in flames. Then there will be a shot of a guitarist playing with his body silhouetted against the fire.
Then a shot of the singer singing the final lines to the camera through the flames. Finally the final shot of the singer walking away and a slow zoom into the fire as the song ends. A dramatic ending to a dramatic song.

Impact of Target Audience research has had on our idea

We took the feedback given to us by the interviewed Target audience and from the websites we looked at, (UK tribes, Bauer media).

Things to improve and consider:
With the tempo of the song being slow then our shots should be long and slow motion for some parts.
When using the drum shot with water on it and a light underneath we should consider the sync with the music. at the same time we should use some slow motion as to not loose the effect of the water reflecting the light.
We should consider the performance aspect of the music video , we averaged the percentage that we should split it by what the people we interviewed reckoncoming to the conclusion about 60% narrative and 40% performance.
We also have considered using the flash paper to produce flames for the lyrics "up in flames"We also have thought that the location should majority be in an urban area. The only problem was that the public's reaction to cameras can hinderer filming. However, we could use low populated urban areas.

Target audience member profile

I have used UK Tribes to find out about my Target audience member profile:
This has told me that our target audience is quite a wide range of teens. It also tells me that many people of the alternate genre avoid the mainstream genre, therefore if we are to reach this majority we should avoid the mainstream way of advertising. This is because they would not look or take it in otherwise. It has also told us that we are to connect to them via niche magazines and social media sites. The Alternate genre is vast full of many different groups from Emo's to Gamers. these contrast in the way they act. Emo's stay in a group of friends where as Gamers tend to have more friends online rather than 'Real world friends'. Also Emo's have their own fashion scene where as Gamers dont tend to take any care in fashion.
This tells me that people of that genre stay in friend groups, don't tend to think of the future and love to go to gigs.
These are just some of the brands, and media networks the Alternate group are into
This also tell us that the Alternate group use a lot of media, mostly the internet and radio. this means that they can be reached easily with a wide range of media.
This has told us what Phycographics and Demographics effect our target audience.

Name : Kane Guichard

Age : 17

Gender : male
Information : A media studies student, who i worked with last year. He is currently not in our group but is doing a similar genre to ours. He was interviewed questions about our music ideas video and helped to construct feedback to improve our music video. we also found out more about our target audience's likes in the genre.

Name : Jordan Chilvers
Age : 17
Gender : male
Information : A theatre studies student who knows a lot about lighting and actor capability as well as framing a scene which is similar to framing a shot. He was a good target audience to talk to about composing our music video shots and we took feedback from him to improve and consider in our music video. He also is a big fan of our genre with many interesting view points. With hope Jordan may be able to help us be or pick an actor for our filming.

Target audience interview

Here are two Audience audio interviews, One of the people we asked is Jordan that explains his opinion of our ideas, the other Kane a fellow media student.

Target Audience Research

I have used Bauer to help find my target audience here is a small clip to tell you about what they do and there influences on the public.

In this video our band for the song we are using is mentioned (Coldplay) and how they use Q radio for promotion therefore meaning those who listen to Q radio also are interested in our genre.

This screenshot is a little information of the radio station Q. This shows us that Q is a good example of our target audience. Telling us that Q's radio station have many formats to connect to their target audience with, Magazines, Radio, Websites and on TV. This if we are to target our audience tells us what we need use to do this.

I have also contacted a smaller radio station called Siren FM which belongs to lincoln univercity. I did this because i wanted to see what type of audience listen to their music and what types of genre they play. Here is the email i have sent:
Here is the reply:

I also contacted Radio1 which is a huge radio station covering all the U.K. and parts of the world. here is my e mail sent:
Here is their generic reply:
Still awaiting for a personal reply, however like the last mail says (it may not happen)

Target Audience Considerations

Our target audience is men and woman aged 13 to 30 but mainly men. within the social class of A, B, C1. and are usually white. All these factors are part of the demographics of target audience (Age, Sex, Social class and ethnicity)

The psycho graphic target audience consists of attitudes, opinions and interests. Our audiences attitude would be young reckless and grasping opportunities. Opinions of our target audience can be linked to what the lyrics sing out. our audiences interests are modernised with a touch of classics.

Feedback from audience:
Overall good idea that people like and there where recommendations to add to what we had such as:
-A time laps with the singer stood on his own while the crowd in a city centre blur by him.
-To match the tempo with slow and long shots.
-Saturation of colours to give a dull feeling that link with the song itself.
-Flash paper, this is a prop we can use to help with the fire concept.
-We also have thought about having auditions for the two main characters in the story, (the actor and the main singer)

Asking Artist's permition

William Davidson contacted Coldplay though their Facebook page, and print screened the message to them asking permission to use their song. (William is part of our team of 3).
